Job Title: Senior Technical Writer
About the Job
Metapercept Technology Services is looking for an experienced technical writer to create customer-focused product documentation for software products. This role requires planning, writing, and maintaining high-quality technical documentation. The ideal candidate should be a self-starter with good written and verbal communication skills, who enjoys continuous learning, and delivers technical documentation that reduces errors, improves results, increases quality, and/or creates value.
Key Responsibilities:
● Create and maintain technical deliverables including feature descriptions, product
specifications, setup/install guides, admin guides, user guides, help files, API reference, and other technical documents for hardware platforms and software products including cloud, finance, and network management applications.
● Collaborate with key stakeholders and subject matter experts to understand and identify requirements and customer needs.
● Follow the documentation process and style guidelines to ensure consistency in detail, style, accuracy, presentation, and usability of the content.
● Gather customer feedback to improve usability and work with other writers to raise the bar in the team.
● Analyze the documentation site traffic and user engagement metrics and optimize the content according to search engine optimization (SEO).
● Format and prepare content for ingestion into XML-based content management system (CMS).
● Participate in team planning discussions and identify and resolve gaps and inconsistencies in the existing documentation.
● Plan, control, and track documentation activities according to the project schedule.
● Adhere to product/organizational processes and quality guidelines for content creation and tooling.
● Coordinate with the technical and project management team for planning and delivery of technical documentation.
● Regularly report status, risks, and issues to stakeholders.
● Keep up to date with industry standards and trends.
Minimum Qualifications:
● BA/BS in Communication, Journalism, English, Computer Science, or related degree, or comparable experience.
● Minimum 5+ years of experience in writing software product documentation.
● Demonstrated ability to produce high-quality, rich technical content that presents information in easy-to-understand plain language.
● Ability to research complex technical concepts (independently and collaboratively) and develop effective deliverables.
● Attention to detail.
● Familiarity with information architecture principles, content organization, minimalism, content reuse, and user experience.
● Knowledge of user experience, user-centered and visual design principles, including new trends.
● Excellent writing and organizational skills with the ability to deliver on time and with quality.
● Ability to work independently and within a team.
● Excellent communication and customer interaction skills.
● Experience with structured authoring techniques in DITA, XML authoring tools, and content management systems.
● Skill using Oxygen XML Author or a similar product to create documentation in DITA.
● Ability to manage documentation using Git and GitHub.
● Knowledge of HTML, CSS, and other web technologies.
● Knowledge of JIRA tracking tool.
● Knowledge of SEO techniques.
